It's something to do with the year data which is supposed to be numerical, I think? In your case, see if you can go "edit item" on yours, change the year to a regular 4 digit year number (like 2006 or whatever), submit that and then check in ~15 minutes to see if it helps.

thank you - (first) problem solved!

to anyone with a similar problem - when submitting data for your movie in the field "Year of this movie (YYYY)" do not enter e.g. 1996/2003, just 1996 or 2003...

do you know how i can upload my self-made thumbnails (85 stills, 240 x 150, "looped" .gif, a bit different than the normal thumbnails since they have a small black border and are not just from every minute of the movie but chosen to tell the story quickly on a visual level)...? i have attached them to my previous forum post here: http://www.archive.org/iathreads/post-view.php?id=53414. when trying to upload them myself via ftp i get an "authentication failed" error. (also i don't know what else is needed so they would load on the movie's page - some xml page i guess...?)

and by the way: we are still looking for all those indie filmmakers uploading their movies via archive.org/ourmedia. have a look at our new "indie movies" group at ourmedia, it is meant to promote all those indie movies here, build some kind of network etc...: http://www.ourmedia.org/node/129538

thank you,

valentin (indiworks)

BTW I see someone has now tweaked the system to *require* submissions and updates to have the year correct (YYYY or YYYY-MM-DD). Thanks Tracey or whomever!

To add a few more images, I think you can again go to edit item and look for a link to "item manger." One of the buttons should be for adding/removing files to your item under the new system. The directions are different from the old way. Good luck!

it worked - thanks a lot!

so this is what you have to do if thumbnails are not automatically created for your movie:

>>> >>> >>>

1) create thumbnails yourself

e.g. os x:

make screenshots - command-shift-3 - while watching your movie fullscreen - free player: www.videolan.org
convert those screenshots from .pdf to .jpg using the shareware program graphicconverter: file > convert & modify
import the .jpg(s) to iphoto, this automatically creates thumbnails
find them in pictures > iphoto library > 2006 (or 2007 etc.) > 01 (etc., 01 = january) > 13 (etc., = the day) > thumbs
again using graphicconverter: file > convert & modify - convert to .gif and make sure to click: options > create movie + loop + endless (you also first may have to rename your thumbnails from 1, 2, ... to 01, 02 etc. and also only work with a duplicate of the iphoto thumbs folder!)

2)

on your movie's archive.org page: edit item > item manager > click "checkout -- edit item's files (non XML)"
the next page now says you have 48h to add/remove items

e.g. os x:

using the free ftp client cyberduck (works great) you can navigate to your ftp directory (details on the site after "checkout -- ..." ) and upload e.g. title_of_movie_thumbnails.gif

after finishing/confirming those thumbnails appear automatically where they normally would if generated by the archive.org deriver!

<<< <<< <<<

i also tried to automatically redo the thumbnails, but this did not work. there seems to be a problem with the build in mplayer, the process starts, but soon stops. this is what the log says:

"MPlayer interrupted by signal 6 in module: decode_video - MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen. It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug. MPlayer returned non-zero return code ERROR Removing /2/items/Vincent_version_03_engl_subtitles_h264/Vincent_version_03_engl_subtitles_h264.gif CREATING DERIVATION PLAN EXECUTING PLAN Nothing to do! Deriver returned code: 1 which means SUCCEEDED"

@ archive.org: maybe the mplayer can't handle the h.264 encoded mpeg-4 file and needs to be fixed...?

thanks again,

Here are some more tips from Tracey about thumbnails:
